Good Evening SEPAG Families and Caregivers,

This newsletter highlights important upcoming state and regional workshops, particularly those centered on transition services and special education planning, to support parents and caregivers of children with special education needs in the New Jersey and Union County area.

The SEPAG school liaisons have been very busy the last few weeks planning and meeting with school principals. These meetings are vital to maintaining the excellent relationships the SEPAG has with our district principals.

LOCAL AND STATE EVENTS & WORKSHOPS (November 17–23)

This week offers several key virtual sessions focusing on transition planning and navigating the special education and adult services systems in New Jersey:

Monday, November 17: The day begins with an online Information Session: Woods Primary and Behavioral Health Center from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, focusing on primary and behavioral health services for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Later that afternoon, from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM, the CST Team Basics: Building a Strong Foundation for Effective Special Education Planning webinar will provide parents with essential information on how Child Study Teams (CSTs) function and how to engage in effective special education planning. Tuesday, November 18: Post-secondary options are the focus with a Virtual Tour With Us - College Steps Program from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, exploring education opportunities for students with IDD. In the evening, the Family Workshop Series: What is PerformCare? will be held virtually from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, offering an overview of PerformCare, the Contracted System Administrator for New Jersey's Children's System of Care, and how to access behavioral health services. Wednesday, November 19: Two critical virtual sessions on adult transition are available. The first, A Runway, Not A Cliff, To Transitioning to Adult Services, is from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM and will provide a comprehensive review of the transition process, timelines, tips, and resources to help prepare your child for adult life after school. You can register for this session through the Special Education Alliance 2025-2026 Parent Advocacy Series. Following closely, from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM, is An Overview of SSI & Medicaid for Individuals with IDD Transitioning into Adulthood, providing vital information on accessing key financial and healthcare resources. ONGOING SUPPORT & ADVOCACY RESOURCES

These organizations provide continuous support, training, and resources for families in New Jersey:

SPAN Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN): Offers statewide workshops and resources on special education and health care rights. Visit the SPAN Learning Portal

Family Support Organization (FSO) of Union County: Provides peer-to-peer support, education, and advocacy for families dealing with children's behavioral and emotional challenges. Visit FSO Union County
