📅 WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2026: TRANSITION PLANNING AND ADULT SERVICES

As we move past our mid-February meeting, we want to highlight a critical upcoming workshop for families of middle and high school students. On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the SPAN Parent Advocacy Network is hosting a virtual session titled Transition to Adult Life. This program is designed to help parents navigate the shift from the school-based entitlement of an IEP to the eligibility-based system of adult services like DDD and DVRS. You can register for this vital planning session at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/span-parent-advocacy-network-313399547

🍿 SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2026: SENSORY-FRIENDLY VALENTINE'S MATINEE

For families looking for a relaxed holiday outing, AMC Theatres in the Mountainside/Union area typically host Sensory Friendly Films on Saturday mornings. These screenings feature the lights turned up and the sound turned down, allowing children to move around and express themselves freely without the usual constraints of a theater. Check the current schedule for the Mountainside location at https://www.amctheatres.com/programs/sensory-friendly-films

🏀 SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2026: ADAPTIVE SPORTS CLINIC

The Children's Specialized Hospital, located right in our backyard in Mountainside, frequently partners with local organizations to host adaptive sports clinics. This Sunday features an Adaptive Open Gym session for children with physical and developmental disabilities to explore basketball and floor hockey with specialized equipment. Families can view the full community recreation calendar and sign up for alerts at https://www.rwjbh.org/treatment-care/pediatrics/conditions-treatments/pediatric-specialty-programs/activity-connection-recreation-programs/

⚖️ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2026: PRESIDENT'S DAY ADVOCACY PREP

While schools are closed for the holiday, it is a perfect time to organize your child's Special Education Red Folder. The Wrightslaw Advocacy website provides comprehensive checklists and free downloads for parents to prepare for upcoming Spring Annual Reviews. Utilizing these "off-days" for record organization is a key strategy for effective advocacy. Access their free training resources at https://www.wrightslaw.com/
