S905/A1281 Legislation

If you received an email this week from the school to schedule compensatory services, do not be alarmed. All students with a disability are required to hold the meeting per NJ Legislation that was signed on March 3rd.
Please see the below email from the district dated September 30th regarding this process.

Dear Parents,

On March 3, 2022 Governor Murphy signed S905/A1281. This legislation requires each district to schedule an IEP meeting by December 31, 2022 for every student with a disability who had an IEP at any time between March 18, 2020 and September 1, 2021.  The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss services that may not have been provided during remote or hybrid instruction, consider the impact of any missed services on student progress towards meeting IEP goals and objectives, and determine the need for any compensatory education.

Many parents discussed these concerns previously and/or at their student's annual review meeting in the spring.  You are receiving this letter because this was not discussed at one of your student's IEP meetings.  In order to better serve you and your student, please complete the form on this link to provide your case manager with information regarding your student.  Regardless of your response, the district will schedule an additional IEP meeting prior to December 31, 2022.

Please note that this law does NOT apply to those who are entitled to an additional year of eligibility after they turn 21 years of age pursuant to S3434 (N.J.S.A. 18A:46-3).

If you have any questions regarding this process or the new law, please contact your case manager.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lisa Rebimbas
