SPEAG LIAISON 2025 Update Meeting

Hello All,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 SEPAG School Year! We hope you're enjoying the summer and are able to take some time to unwind with your families.

As discussed in previous meetings and outlined in our newly approved by-laws, SEPAG is transitioning to a level-based liaison model to improve outreach and engagement across all schools. This approach is similar to how our district’s Special Services supervisors operate—by educational level (e.g., preschool/elementary vs. secondary)—to ensure consistency and equity in support.

We recognize that having a limited number of volunteers has made it challenging to fully engage every school. Shifting to a level-based structure is not meant to add more work or time to anyone’s role. Instead, it’s a way to foster greater collaboration across multiple schools, encouraging the sharing of ideas and strategies that can lead to stronger engagement among families. This model allows parents and caregivers to work together more effectively to support their children’s needs, while ensuring consistent access to information and support for all.

What This Means for Liaisons

  • Principal Engagements - Meet virtually with principals across your designated level (elementary, middle, or high school). This builds consistency and strengthens SEPAG’s presence.

  • PTA Eblasts - Send SEPAG updates to all PTAs within your designated level at least twice a month. These communications help maintain consistency across schools and ensure families stay informed. If you need help getting started, we can provide messaging templates to make the process easier.

  • School Events, Outreach & Visibility - Ensure SEPAG has a visible presence at key events such as Back-to-School Nights, orientations, parent-teacher conferences, and community awareness activities like mental health programming. Volunteers may support events at schools other than their own, allowing parents to attend their child’s activities while still promoting SEPAG across the district. For instance, a middle school SEPAG parent might help at a high school event, creating a collaborative network that supports inclusive programming and strengthens caregiver engagement at all school levels.

  • Feedback Sessions - Host or support smaller-level family feedback sessions—virtually or off-campus—for better participation and insights.

  • Community Engagement - Promote local resources, expos, and workshops via the SEPAG newsletter and website. Share info with fellow liaisons to broaden outreach.
  • Community Engagement - Promote local resources, expos, and workshops through the SEPAG newsletter and website, and share this information with fellow liaisons to expand outreach. Additionally, use these opportunities to raise awareness about SEPAG and actively recruit new members to strengthen our community and support network.

These roles aren’t intended to add time, as these are what has been asked already to be done at a school level, but rather to expand impact. We're here to support you and make this shift successful.

Next Steps

  • If you’d like to continue as a level-based liaison, let us know your child’s school level so we can coordinate.

  • If you’d prefer to volunteer in a different capacity or remain a general member, that’s fine too—just let us know.

  • If we don’t hear from you by August 1, we’ll assume you’re stepping back from the liaison role (you’ll still receive SEPAG updates).

The SEPAG planning a virtual meeting later this summer to review expectations and hear your feedback. I hope you’ll join us in this next phase as we continue to grow SEPAG’s reach and support for all SPF IEP and 504 families.

Thank you,

The SPF SEPAG
