Next month, Scotch Plains and Fanwood will have the opportunity to vote again on a referendum for our schools which will directly impact IEP and 504 families. While the previous referendum offered more to help alleviate multiple issues, it was voted down as it appeared to have been too much of a financial burden to families.
The district has put together a new and revised referendum, and again had community members on the referendum committee.
Please note that both times the two referendums were being proposed and planned for, there have been members of the committee that are part of the SEPAG, and at all levels from Executive Board to Liaisons to general members. Our voices were heard both times by the BOE, and plans to help our families were offered.
Some of the current plans include the preschool disabled programs to move to La Grande which opens space in other schools for services such as OT and PT, as well as other classrooms. It's important to note that OT and PT are often happening in hallways, multipurpose rooms, or other areas that are not ideal for our students. There are also general upgrades to the other schools in the referendum. Please see the below links for more details on what is being proposed.
