As we're all getting ready for the upcoming school year, here are some helpful hints to keep you on track:
- Check your child's IEP or 504, and make sure they know their modifications and accommodations. I started in preschool with my son to help him better advocate for himself (use of sensory items and preferential seating at that age and let him know more as he got older and was able to understand)
- Check your child's schedule/teachers - if they are in an ICR class, sometimes both teachers are listed. When in doubt, you can always email your principal, 504 team leader, or case manager to double check there is a special education teacher or para assigned if it is in your child's plan.
- Color coding for executive function - We use different colors for each subject and two different colored binders for AM/PM or A/B days.
- Make sure your child knows who their case manager or team leader is - if they have questions, they are allowed to talk to them (age appropriately, typically middle school aged).
- Mark your Calendars for SEPAG Meetings, Back to School Nights, and Conferences to make sure you don't miss out.
